The Busa rider had to have been playing with the Buell rider. Or he doesnt know to ride. Buell's are not fast bikes. I dont care what technology they have. Low hp and low tq. Compared to just about any big liter bike out there. So get off the Buell nut sack. Ive been racing cars and bikes for over 20 yrs.

I love my Buell lightning even though I barely ride it , with 7 bikes its hard to find time to ride them all , especially when the 55 panhead must be rode , worst mistake panhead owners have is letting them just sit in the collection & not ride them , my 36 knucklehead can sit out an entire riding season & fire right up the following season , 2 squirts , 3 or 4 prime kicks , slight retard & she fires by the 3rd kick every time but the panheads are much more fickle .

+crotchrocket00 The Rotex engine is not american! The first and second generation Buell used a harley engine that was massaged by Buell and had NASCAR developed heads, so they say. The Third generation Buell's used the Rotex motor and the Last (fourth Gen.) was a in house developed motor that was a blatant copy of the Rotex motor just with about 50 more horsepower. The bike this rider was used was a third Gen! Not an american v-twin!

I laugh so hard when I read everyone saying what a great rider can do on such a slow bike! People need to look up the specs on the 1125r before they run their mouth. First off its a v-twin so instant torque off the line and second the engine was completely designed with Eric Buells vision. Meaning no interference from fucking Harley and built with the help of Porsche and at the same factory in Austria that makes engines for Aprilia. With 146hp and 72tq stock and only weighing 390 wet is NOT slow. Yeah the rider is good for keeping the front down but that's not why he won; its the bike. I race modded busa's at the track and WIN all day. I'm asked every time what I've done to it and they never believe me when I say nothing. Yeah it tops out at 161 but who cares! I can out ride any jap bike all day long on the back roads....that's why you get a bike right? If you want to go fast in a straight line buy a V8! And now Eric Buell has his new1190rx at 185hp and 101tq off the showroom floor for 16k! That's Ducati numbers for half the price! For all the doubters and haters out there I think I've said enough.

Torque is important to get you off the line which I think was the point here. It's the torque that enables one to overcome the inertia of the vehicle at rest. This is one of the reasons why electric vehicles have such impressive acceleration times off the mark. But you are right, torque doesn't mean much at higher rpm and its the rate of energy conversion of petrol that powers you down the road. Unfortunately you can't convince some people how good some things (like the Buell) actually are, because they have such a blinkered view.

Vor year

I posted my comment 2 years ago and happy to see people are still loyal. For the haters the reason they went under had nothing to do with the bike itself but how people want to be like the other guy and get a GSXR because everyone says too. And they rather have a bike with fairings that looks cool over a unique cafe racer that was designed to handle better than any jap bike. It says something that we have been comparing buells to Ducati and not a fucking honda. Do you compare a civic to an Ferrari? Hell no! What sucks the most is Americans rather buy a Jap bike that everyone else has instead buying from an American company that makes a better bike. Again...2 years later I've said enough.

The 1125r is a liquid cooled 72 degree v twin designed in Austria. This is a Buell that has absolutely no Harley made or designed parts at all. Its an amazingly thought out machine and Eric Buell owes Harley nothing at all. Even before the Harley ownership deal Eric Buell was designing bad ass race winning 2 stroke 750 race bikes. +grabir01 And this is why Harley Davidson distanced themselves from Buell, and eventually shut down the company with little explanation. HD sales were poor and Buell was the only part of HD that was growing. Had he found a better motor supplier back in the 80's than HD things would have been much different. And  Erik Buell would have been able to better contend in the boutique market he intended. ie: Ducati, Triumph, KTM, ect. The latest bike by Erik Buell Racing EBR is what he intended to build back in 2007 when the 1125R was released. But HD had full control of the name and ensured they new bike wouldn't take sales away from the HD lineup. http://www.erikbuellracing.com/motorcycles/ebr1190rx/

KTM may also use rotax-brp as their engine producer, but they are different engines. The engine used in the 1125 buell was a custom engine, to fit the unique bike layout of buells, and their other specifications. For the 1125 I think buell was receiving a partially built motor in crate, but with the 1190 series they have been receiving just the engine casing and hand building the engine from the crank up. It's hard to say if the 1190rx will continue this trend.

One other important factor on those "Harley" Buell's is that HD only supplied the cylinders for the engines and did no development on them.  Buell had built and race tuned the entire rest of the engine to their own spec.  You won't get any HD engine to work or shift the same way unless you rebuild and tune it in the way that Buell did back then. Erik Buell believes that the V-Twin motor is better for the rider but needs to be optimized far beyond what HD are interested in, and from where I sit, he's totally correct.

Vor 4 years

The 1125 was the first bike buell made without a harley engine. It was developed with and produced by rotax-brp, according to buell designs and specs, called the helicon v-twin, it's an 1125cc 72 degree v-twin, 4 valve per cylinder, dohc engine. The new EBR 1190 is the same motor, but with a larger bore i believe, and upgraded head components, and a slipper clutch(i don't think the 1125 had a slipper.)

What's the name a that bike that beat the hayabusa, a Bruel huh. I don't think it's the bike so much though, it might be the rider .

The 1125 was designed and built with road racing in mind (going around a circuit). It uses a V Twin but shares nothing with a Harley. It is a Rotax 72 degree liquid cooled twin much more similar to what you would find in an Aprilia than anything that you would find in a Harley. The Busa is a heavy bike set up for comfort and balls out power. A Busa is a great bike to get on and go for hours and hours. The seating position is upright, the pegs are low, the reach to the bars is comfortable.

Never heard the word "class" and the word "busa" in the same sentence. Kudos. :)

Busa aren't overated it's just everyone caught up and surpased with modern technology. Look at the new liter bikes, they'll give a busa a run for it's money and some will beat it. For how old it is it's still pretty fast but there are much better bikes out there that are much lighter and better to drive.
