I have a few Yamaha's. 82' xj750,. 85' 750 MaximX... 03' 125 vino and 2010 R6. And 1 Suzuki. 92' Intruder 800. 2010' R6 is a track bike that I've highsided lowsided flipped backwards (at 70mph) and it still runs like the day I extracted it from the factory wooden crate. Mind you I replaced the fairings, foot pegs and clip-ons more than enough times. But still rides like new ! Nothing else needed replacing besides the pegs fairings and bars !!!

Same story with cars. The Japanese mentality and work ethic is just better. American manufacturers are all about saving money and increasing profits for the already rich. Europeans are all about flash and marketing. The Japanese deliver reliability to keep customers coming back. I’ve owned two Honda motorcycles, 2 Honda cars, 1 Toyota. Only non maintenance issue I’ve ever had is a bad alternator on my 2000 accord. $80 fix done myself. Kept all cars at least 150,000 miles. F4i had 50k miles, 919 now has 25k miles. The cars I’ve given away to relatives are still on the road today driven by relatives. None reported any mechanical issues to me other than maintenance. Issue is most people don’t keep their cars and motorcycles long enough to really care about reliability anyway, thats why less reliable brands are able to survive.

I am turned off now, i was checking the HD iron 883, dealership and private owners, . :( I had bad experiences with Yamahas, one R6/1999... bad electrical problems with the voltage regulator connector, after expending hundreds of dollars I found out a little bit of dielectric grease solved the problem to keep it dry, besides other problems , then got stolen 😢. then a R6 2003, leaking water pump had to be replaced, next: time and time again new batteries never last more than a year even using a battery tender, never found out what was the problem until I sold it... the only thing that keep me going is the passion of motorcycles... and yes I think I am older man now... that is why I am looking for a cruiser HD.. great video. Thanks!

Ponder this. Now I'm not saying that the Jap bikes are not extremely reliable but... most of your over the road and cross country type bikers ride Harley Davidsons. So the majority of Harleys are going to get much much more mileage on them in the first 4 years that your typical sport bike or around town cruiser. So the test IMO shouldn't be in the first 4 years but in the first 25K miles.

Great channel. Did some research, the average sports bike most of the top 4 in the list averaged 3000 miles per year 12000 for the period in the report. Where as the touring bike and cruiser “BMW and Harley “ averaged 5000 to 6000 miles per year or 10000 to 12000 for the period in the report. That’s twice the average as the top 4. So looks like not much validity to consumers report.

As far as street bikes, I've owned a Kawasaki and a Victory.  I've only put fuel, tires and oil in both. Nothing has broken and neither leaked or smoked. I've owned the same Victory for 10 years. As far as quality and attention to detail, the Victory is best. I guess that's why they stopped making them, they were making very little money on parts and service.

The Stratoliner I once had was THE 11%! It had so many problems ( and the problems alone weren't the worst problem, Yamaha's "You want us to do what?" attitude was), that I finally traded it for a Harley-Davidson. Now, yes it had some issues, but Harley took care of me.

I was surprised when I seen the full list that can-am spyders were the worst for reliability. I always seen that company as quality product. They are the same maker of Ski-Doo and I've owned a few of those. Anyway, people can say what they want about "Jap-scrap" but they outlast everybody else. Same with cars, I've always owned GM until my last car, which is a 2009 Honda Accord, and I will never go back to North American cars.

Back in 2002 I bought a new Midnight Venture.. rode it to California and back to New Jersey. I did change the oil in Arizona. In 2003 I put a Dyna ignition and set the limiter to 7,500 and K&N air cleaners. That took it from uh, OK power to Wow, I had no idea. At 40,000 miles it was getting hard to start so I put new plugs, sync'd the carbs, and put new brake pads on the rear. In 2017 the clutch was slipping a little so I added another diaphragm spring on top of the original (yeah, yeah, yeah, I know) $52.00 for the spring, $10.00 for the gasket and 1/2 hours work. I have NEVER had to add oil in between oil changes. It has about 63,000 miles on it and still no major problems. Just a rock solid bike. I'm slowing down but the Yamaha isn't. I'm a Vietnam Vet so that gives away my age.
